Device Cleanup Tool for Windows

Device Cleanup Tool is a simple utility written by Uwe Sieber. It lists all the unused entries for devices in the Windows device manager. (There is also a commandline version of this tool named DeviceCleanupCmd on the same webpage.)

For each device it shows the device name, class and when it was last used. Using this information, you could highlight all the unused devices you wish to delete, right-click and choose Remove Device.

How it helped

I found this tool useful to delete entries for a device which was having issues with Windows. I root caused it to the fact that I had tried connecting this device both using Bluetooth and then using its wireless adapter. Since it had the same name and class in both times, Windows seem to be getting confused when I switched the device back to Bluetooth. Once I deleted all this device’s entries, I was able to add it back using Bluetooth correctly.

Tried with: Device Cleanup Tool 1.2.1
