Uninstalling Trend Micro OfficeScan

πŸ“… 2012-Aug-23 ⬩ ✍️ Ashwin Nanjappa ⬩ 🏷️ trend micro officescan ⬩ πŸ“š Archive

The Trend Micro OfficeScan anti-virus software tends to be installed on computers in certain work networks. It is usually configured such that the user of the computer cannot change its settings or uninstall it, even if he has Administrator privileges. This can be a hassle since OfficeScan runs scans on the computer at odd times and the software is quite a resource hog. OfficeScan cannot be uninstalled since it asks for a network password set by the system administrator of the work network.

The network password is stored as a MD5 hash in the file ofcscan.ini in the directoryΒ C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\OfficeScan Client. There are two operations which require passwords: unloading the program and uninstalling the program. These entries can be found in the file with the strings Uninstall_Pwd and Unload_Pwd. Details of how to replace these entries with your own can be found here.

Once you have replaced the password, unload the program and then uninstall it. You will be required to enter the new password at both times. OfficeScan is gone for good! 😊
