How to enable or disable Apport

Apport is the crash reporting service in Ubuntu.

  • To disable it for your current login session:
$ sudo service apport stop
  • To disable it from the next restart onwards, edit this file:
$ sudoedit /etc/default/apport

Change the enabled=1 in the file to enabled=0. You will need to restart for it to take effect.

  • To enable back Apport, reverse the above steps.

Tried with: Apport 2.14.1 and Ubuntu 14.04
