How to find FPS of Basler camera

Basler Frame Rate Calculator application
Basler Frame Rate Calculator application

The specifications of a Basler camera lists a Frame Rate for the camera in units of frames per second (FPS). However, you might find that you are getting a much lesser FPS than listed. This might be due to various settings of the camera for your situation which might be constraining your FPS.

There is a Basler Frame Rate Calculator application which can be used to play around with the camera parameters to figure out the FPS for given settings for your camera.

  • Go to the Basler page for your camera. Find the Frame Rate Calculator in the Downloads section and download it.

  • Unzip the downloaded .7z zipped file. You get a .jar file, execute it:

$ java -jar Frame_Rate_Calculator_Applet.jar
  • In the application, you can choose your camera and your settings and see the resulting frame rate.

Tried with: Basler acA1600-60gc GigE camera, OpenJDK 7 and Ubuntu 14.04
